Canadians Traveling to Mexico

Travel Information for Canadians

Mexico is one of the most popular travel destination for all kinds of travelers because of its natural beauty and accessibility. While you may think that traveling is that easy, there are important things you need to know and prepare when planning a trip to Mexico.

  • Check Canadian Travel Advisories for Mexico
Be aware of the situation of your specific destination and know which places are safe for Canadians to visit.

  • Entering Mexico
All Canadian citizens need a valid passport to enter Mexico, just make sure that it’s valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date to avoid delays and/or misunderstandings.

If you’re traveling to Mexico just for a vacation and your stay won’t exceed 180 days, you won’t be required for visas to enter and your regular Canadian passport would be sufficient. Still, all Canadians entering Mexico by plane or land should have a tourist card filled out and stamped at their first port of entry.

  • Traveling with Children
If you’re traveling with kids, you should carry their valid passport, birth certificate, and a letter of authorization (signed by the other parent/both parents, if traveling with only one parent, with a third-party of legal age, or alone).

  • Medical Care and Travel Insurance
Before your departure from Canada, it’s strongly advised for you to purchase a supplementary medical travel insurance that will cover the cost of emergencies, pre-existing illness, or pregnancy as your Canadian medical insurance will not cover you during your stay in Mexico.

  • Exit Regulations
Holders of dual citizenship (Canadian and Mexican) can enter and leave Mexico as Mexican citizens. To avoid delays, missing a flight, or having to pay unexpected expenses and/or imposition a fine, be prepared to present a valid Mexican immigration document (like a tourist card/visitor’s permit).
  • Family Vacations in Puerto Vallarta ID#214057

Keep a checklist with you and make sure you plan your travels. These aren’t supposed to cause stress, but to help you make your trip the best it can be, and lead to subsequent stays in Mexico.
