You have 3 different grocery stores just a few steps away, all with everything that you could possibly need, so you can take your pick. • Wonderful Restored 18th

    Montcuq: Farmhouse
    4 BDR • 2 BA • Sleeps 8 • #225612
    100.76 to 336.71 CAD/night
'We had a brilliant time!' Our beaming visitors say Béral is the perfect getaway for adults and for kids. The traditional 18th-century farmhouse in white Quercy stone is matched by the splendour of its private pool, large terrace with ping-pong & barbeque, orchard and exquisite setting. All has been sensitively restored to be characterful but with modern conveniences. The property is set into the side of a hill, with everything facing south; the terrace, pool and gardens are spread out to give wonderful views over the fields of sunflowers. Inside, the farmhouse has a large main living room, with stone and whitewashed walls, a traditional corner kitchen and a beamed open fireplace. To either side are delightful bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with a king and a cot if needed. All the rooms have views over the valley. The upstairs bathroom has a hipbath with a shower, and a toilet. Downstairs are two more bedrooms - both with antique floor tiles and two single beds - and a second bathroom. The house has been tastefully restored to retain all its ancient character, but with modern facilities throughout. The house is particularly well laid out for a single family or two families together. But the upper floor is also fantastic for a couple traveling alone. There are too many attractions in the area to suggest more than a few. Among the distinctive villages, Lascabanes has beautiful flowers and a lovely church; Lauzerte, high on a hill, a carefully restored bastide with a remarkable town square and good festivals; Saint-Cirq Lapopie, a 45-minute drive up the Lot, is the most famous village of the area, a medieval town in a spectacular cliffside setting hanging over the river - good restaurants too; Montpezat-de-Quercy has a beautiful arcaded square, and half-timbered houses. Rocamadour is not far away. Figeac is well worth a visit, with its museum to Champollion, who cracked the code of the Rosetta Stone. With the porous limestone prevalent on the causse, there are important caves in the area. The most famous is the huge underground village of Peche Merle, with its prehistoric paintings and traces of early man (up the Célé river from Cahors). The most well-known museums in the area include the Toulouse Lautrec museum in Albi (which also has a wonderful red-brick cathedral), the Musée des Beaux Arts in Agen, and the Musée d'Ingres in Montaubon. There are many other types of museum covering every aspect of Quercy life. Among the cathedrals and abbeys, apart from Albi, you might consider driving to the wonderful abbey at Moissac, which also has a stunning set of well-preserved cloisters. 'I thought I would drop you a line to let you know what a wonderful time my family and I had at Béral. You are truly lucky to own such a beautiful house set in picturesque countryside. We all felt that the improvements you had made complimented the house and were in keeping with its origins. We all felt so relaxed and extremely sad when our week came to an end - no-one wanted to leave. Many, many thanks for letting us experience Béral.' 'We had a brilliant time while we were at Béral. It was the first time we have visited this area and were bowled over. The house was a perfect place to put your feet up and catch up with your reading.... Carol loved the Sunday market at Montcuq. Most of all the boys enjoyed jumping in and out of the pool!'

It is 50 minutes to the beautiful town of St Tropez, and also 50 minutes drive to Cannes and 55 minutes to Gorge de Verdon winch boasts an incredible turquoise blue lake. 25 minutes drive to Frejus seafront and sandy beaches and a fantastic aqua park. Nice is 1 hour and and 14 minutes by car. The local vineyards are superb with great quality wines. “We had a fantastic holiday in this spacious house with a magnificent swimming pool set in beautiful gardens in the hills above Les Arcs. The location is very peaceful and private. The swimming pool was the focus of our stay, the lack of chlorine was much appreciated and it has to be said that it was one of the best pools we have ever experienced. The pool is also toddler friendly because it has a gradual descent into the pool which gave our toddler the confidence to learn to swim. The house is tastefully decorated, clutter free, with modern furniture and mod cons. There is a functional kitchen with all the amenities we needed and an outdoor barbecue. The upstairs bedrooms have a shared balcony which gave us extra space and views of the surrounding area. As cyclists, we appreciated the use of the double garage for secure storage. We could descend down into les arcs for coffee and croissants at the excellent Le Tour cafe and return via traffic free roads through vineyards and leafy lanes. There is a local cycle path about 20 miles long, where the gradients were easy and gave panoramic views of the local vineyards. If you do this track, make sure you stop at the Station Rosalie (green caravan), west of Lorgues, serving the best bruschetta any of us had ever tasted. A trip to the Gorge De Verdon is spectacular and would make a great place to visit for either kayaking, cycling or walking. There is a big choice of local supermarkets, Boulangerie’s and a fruit and veg shop offering fantastic fruit and vegetables to die for, are within easy access by car or bike. The area seems to specialise in rose wine and the Chateau Saint Pierre is just south of Les Arcs selling great bottles for a good price. We had an incredible holiday and we can’t wait to go back! ”

    Beynac et Cazenac: House
    3 BDR • 2 BA • Sleeps 6 • #233150
    173.62 to 542.57 CAD/night
This is a charming 15th Century stone house located in the heart of the village of Beynac, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The chateau at Beynac is on the top of a 500-foot cliff and the village houses are positioned below - providing privacy and spectacular views from one side of the house, and village life on the other. Extraordinary views of the magnificent Dordogne river and the Valley of the Five Chateaux present themselves from each of the four floors. The front door opens directly from the cobblestone streets - just steps from our private and unique parking grotte - into the main room of approximately 60 sq. Meters. Honey-colored stone walls, stone tile floor, ancient wooden beams, and a huge medieval fireplace set the tone for this main floor. A fully applianced kitchen with granite countered cooking area is built into one of the old fireplaces. Antique carpets and leather seating offers a comfortable area to relax, listen to the stereo or view English satellite television on the 48" flat panel television. The large dining table suitable for seating up to 6 diners is next to the window offering spectacular views of the river, the sunset, and the colorful Montgolfiers (hot air balloons) drifting by at dawn and sunset most days in season. Down the stone staircase is the Master Bedroom with an ensuite bathroom combining modern fixtures with stone walls. A King-size bed with a Tempurpedic mattress, reading lamps, desk, and a large private full-width balcony with loungers, barbeque and dining table for two make this room the ideal spot to relax with a glass of wine to admire the view. On this same level, there is a very small bedroom with bunk beds for children, which is especially convenient for parents who want their young children to sleep nearby but in a separate space from the master bedroom. One floor down, the old merchant's storeroom now is the second large bedroom, again with stone walls, an ancient beamed ceiling, and a river view. This room also has a king-size bed. An ensuite bathroom, and a full laundry room with a washer and dryer complete this floor. Because neither bedrooms are in the attic, and the thick stone walls offer a cooling insulator against the hot Dordogne summers, we sleep comfortably cool all summer long, many times with a duvet cover. Another floor down brings you to a flagstone terrace with a grape and wisteria arbor for a shaded sitting area and a few steps down, the stunning swimming pool area - with panoramic views and full access to the sun. Wonderful views of the river from both terraces and views of the Chateaux of Fayrac, Castelnaud, Lacosse, and Marqueyssac. Eat, drink and be merry. Mont Joie is truly a destination in itself. Many of our guests return each year and plan their whole vacation around their stay at this property. So pack your bags and experience the true French joie de vivre. Please note: Parking for a small vehicle. The property has stairs to each level.

REVIEWS ********************************************************************************************************* An absolutely charming, storybook home. Fairytale outside, air conditioning and Wi-Fi inside. 5/5 Stayed Jun 2018 Bridget D. USA We had a wonderful visit. Martine was absolutely lovely; fun, kind and patient with our poor French language skills. She even made us a dinner reservation on our first night there. The house is charming, and it was wonderful to sit on the patio and watch village life go by. Thank you Vincent and Martine. Small piece of paradise 5/5 Stayed Jun 2018 Louis K. We had many a late dinner out on this little patio. The house is ideally situated in Beynac so that you can explored all the beautiful surrounding villages with ease. Wonderful forests to hike in. La Petite Maison is absolutely perfect :o) 5/5 Stayed Mar 2018 Rich M. USA We stayed at this charming little cottage for 2 weeks. It is the perfect location for exploring the Dordogne region and for other day trips. The property is absolutely breathtaking and is like living in a fairytale. It is exactly what you see in the pictures....Only better!! You will be impressed from the time you arrange this accommodation with the owner, are met and given the keys (super cool keys) and are greeted by the wonderful housekeeper. The owners suggestions for weekly markets, hiking, gardens and cave art were brilliant. Of all the villages we visited we were always so excited to get back home to La Petite Maison and Beynac. We would go back in a heartbeat!! It couldn't possibly be any better. 5/5 Stayed Dec 2017 Judith N. USA Staying here is like staying in a dream. Everything you need is here and the cottage and the town are charming and welcoming. We loved shopping for ingredients for our Christmas dinner at the little local shops at the bottom of the hill. Add some pate from a local farm and it is an unforgettable experience in an unforgettable place. Even in December many places were open and everyone was so patient with our attempts to speak French. Merci, Vincent, for sharing your treasure with us.

THE REGION: It is in a village called CAPESTANG (population approx 3,500), which is close to the PYRENEES, the MASSIF CENTRAL and just 25 minutes from the MEDITERRANEAN SEA. Why is it called Capestang? Prior to the Middle Ages the village was on land jutting into a lake or etang, so became known as Cap d’Etang. The lake was drained but remnants of it can still be seen from the top of the nearby L’Oppidom d’Enserune, which was a Roman settlement where many artefacts still exist, showing a dartboard appearance from the shape of the fields below. It is a village which is popular with tourists but is not spoiled by them. The essential character of a southern French village still being retained. It is an area is full of antiquity and items of historical interest dating back to 3,000 BC. This village has been in existence for at least 1,000 years and parts of the old village wall and other buildings still exist. It is a centre of the Languedoc viticulture region where the local wines have become exceptionally good over the last few years. There facilities for walking, lazing on the beach (some of which are family orientated, such as Valras Plage, where there is a kiddies playground and sheltered areas to make safe areas for the children and it is patrolled by lifeguards). There is swimming in the sea, lakes and nearby swimming pools with other water sports. You can hire a boat for a leisurely ride along the canal, or hire cycles for a ride. It is a very good area for cycling and walking. For the motorcyclists, there are some excellent roads for riding hereabouts but beware of the speed traps. There are even areas where you can do some light aircraft flying. Wine tasting, eating out and exploring old relics are also good options. In fact with such a good choice of restaurants which can be reached on foot the car can rest in the garage at night. The locals are so very cheerful, friendly and helpful and overall it has a calm and peaceful atmosphere and is an ideal place to wind down. It is also makes an excellent base for touring the region. Our house is situated within 300 metres of the village centre where there are a number of shops, cafe's, restaurants, a very striking church and other amenities. At the eastern end of the village, there is an InterMarché Supermarket with a Lidl supermarket at the western end. This area is blessed with a Mediterranean climate meaning that it is hot and dry in the summer and the winters are relatively mild, with lovely comfortable spring and autumns in between. LE CANAL DU MIDI crosses the northern part of the village and is about 500 metres from the house. ABOUT OUR HOUSE: Our house is mostly stone built and terraced. Having good modern insulation it is comparatively cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This is augmented by a “green” system which provides heating and cooling to the main living area and the three bedrooms. A wood burning stove gives added heat and comfort in the coldest months. It is built on two floors with the ground floor and is mainly open plan, consisting of a front porch, then a spacious lounge/diner extending into the kitchen giving a spacious living area. In here there is an HD multi channel flat screen satellite and local TV, an audio centre, a comfortable 3 piece suit and book shelves with a selection of books covering all interests. In the dining area there is a dining table with 6 chairs and also a dresser. There is an integral garage, large enough to accommodate most makes of car. At the rear of the garage there is the laundry area with a washing machine. There is a downstairs toilet with a wash basin with a rear porch area. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes an electric cooker, dish washer, fridge freezer, micro wave oven and a granite surface work top. To the rear of our house there is an outdoor terraced area with a barbeque and garden furniture to allow for outdoor eating and beyond this a garden in which there is a spa pool. After mounting the stairs to the second floor there is firstly a double bedroom furnished with a pair of single beds, built in wardrobes with ample hanging and storage space. From here the next room is the main bathroom which is quite large and has a tub, shower, wash basin and a W/C. The next bedroom is also fitted with built in ample sized wardrobes. It has twin beds and an en suite shower room with a shower, wash basin and W/C. The final bedroom is furnished with a double bed and again ample sized built in wardrobes and drawer space. The beams have been left exposed throughout the second floor and in the single storey kitchen giving high ceilings and a pleasing ambience. In the roof there are two Veluxe skylights allowing addition daylight to the stairs and upstairs landing, giving a light and airy feeling. In the bathroom there is a heated towel rail which can also be used to provide heat. The domestic hot water system is heated via solar panels on the roof feeding a 300 litre tank. We also have a telephone and inter-net access. GETTING THERE: Capestang is about 15 minutes from the Beziers West exit of the N9 Autoroute. It is about one hour from Montpelier, Perpignan and Carcassonne Airports, two hours from Toulouse and three hours from Barcelona Airports. Alternatively, if you prefer about 12 hours driving time from the channel ports. It is also an easy day’s drive from Bilbao in Spain. There is also a Motor-Rail terminus at nearby Narbonne and the journey by EuroStar, TGV and SNCF should take about II hours to Beziers from St Pancras, London. 101.28 to 130.22 CAD/night
Our property is just outside the village of Vidou, about 2km from the little Gascony Bastide town of Trie-sur-Baïse. Built in the 1880s, a traditional L-shaped Gascony farmhouse, with the family living in one side and the livestock and winter stores in the other. It remained a working farm until the end of the 1990’s when the land was sold off and the barn side of the property was tastefully converted into a Pyrenees holiday gîte. The department of the Hautes Pyrénées is part of the relatively undiscovered and tranquil south west of France known as Gascony. The small village of Vidou is situated just 3.5 kilometres from the 13th century bastide market town of Trie sur Baïse (pronounced Tree sue’r By-ease), which offers all day to day requirements, with banks, bakers, supermarkets, butcheries, pharmacies, doctors, dentists and tourist information bureau. A bustling market takes place every Tuesday. Midi-Pyrénées boasts more than 20 world-famous Great Tourist Sites of outstanding interest in a region that takes up much of South-West France, including Millau Viaduct, the Cirque de Gavarnie, Rocamadour and much more. Sun-kissed, endearing and a treat for lovers of fine food, the region’s way of life and beautiful countryside will bowl you over, not forgetting the region’s capital of Toulouse in all its red-brick finery, a city renowned for its quality of life. The Great Tourist Sites in Midi-Pyrénées include great man-made structures unrivalled anywhere in the world (Millau Viaduct, Pic du Midi astronomical observatory), medieval gems (Cordes sur Ciel, Rocamadour, Saint Cirq-Lapopie), Unesco World Heritage Sites (Albi and its Cité Épiscopale, the Canal du Midi) and wonders of nature (Cirque de Gavarnie, Pont d’Espagne). Midi-Pyrénées boasts a heritage of infinite diversity, unspoilt and cherished, dating chiefly from Prehistory, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. All around the Great Sites, châteaux, gorgeous villages, ‘bastide’ towns, Templar cities, prehistoric painted caves, and fine churches, cathedrals and abbeys are just waiting to be discovered by the curious traveller. The region bears the scars of the crusade against the Cathars, symbolised by the mighty Montségur Castle in Ariège. Midi-Pyrénées gives you four regional nature parks and the never-ending spectacle of beautiful landscapes. In the south, the region butts up against the Pyrenees whose 3,000-metre peaks form a line along the border with Spain. This is a destination where hiking, cycling, white-water sports and skiing (in winter, in the Pyrenees), are in their element. And with some of France’s finest canals and rivers, including the Canal du Midi, making up one of the largest networks of waterways in southern Europe, river tourism is becoming increasingly popular. And Midi-Pyrénées is also France’s fourth biggest spa region. The 17 thermal-water spas here offer stunning surroundings in which to relax and soak up the pampering pleasures of thermal spa well-being. No surprise, then, that Midi-Pyrénées is home to Europe’s largest collection of recreation spas. From our Gite you are within easy reach of Skiing, Cycling, fishing (coarse and fly), playing golf or just enjoying the beautiful sights and culture

Robert says ‘Excellent place to unwind’
We had a lovely peaceful week in mid-September. The house and grounds were wonderful and everything was perfect. One minor issue with the pool cover mechanism was sorted out quickly and the owners were very helpful. The pool was lovely and a nice temperature, and the tennis court was great. The house was well equipped and lovely for eating outside. We walked into Catus along footpaths and it took 35 minutes there (less to get to the lake). The Sunday market in Cazals was very good. I took a bike, and the roads were good for cycling - but be prepared for long hills! A visit to Cirq Lapopie was well worth it - best way to see it is to park at Bouzies and walk the 3.8km along the Chemin Halage. A great place to unwind.

Thank you for your kind words: You found Pech del Bras as it should be - a great place to escape and unwind, and if you love tennis, so much the better!

Linda says ‘Idyllic Stay in an Unforgettable Village ’
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Mont Joie, in the village of Beynac et Cazenac (note: there is another “Beynac” nearby—so you must use the longer double-name in your GPS to find the right places). From our initial contact, we were impressed with the owner. He sent a full overview of the property as well as all of the essential sites in the area. We were impressed that the information was sent at the time of booking, thus giving us ample opportunity to include the data in our trip plans (note: many of the places that we stay do not provide any such information until just before we arrive and it does not include area sights). We were greeted and shown around the property by Martine, who does not let her lack of English (or our French) stop her from conveying enthusiasm for our stay, and a lot of details about the house. Our welcome included a basket of food and snacks.

Mont Joie is in an idyllic site in a picture-postcard village. The house is in the historic section of Beynac et Cazenac, and has been beautifully restored and tastefully decorated. Windows from the main floor living area look over the river with swans floating by, and castles in the distance. There is a terrace off the master bedroom where you can enjoy the same romantic view. During our stay, the weather was rainy, but we still enjoyed sitting on the terrace, enjoying the ambiance of the Dordogne river. We had problems with our rental vehicle and were able to stay some extra nights at a special rate. So, a special thank you to the owner who uses this lovely place as a second home. We couldn't wish for a more delightful place to spend extra days in France.

No had no trouble parking. The hike from the parking lot to the Villa is a bit steep, and we needed to stops twice to catch our breathes. Walk a little further uphill, and you reach the majestic chateau that overlooks the village, and enjoy a panoramic view of the river. This 15th century medieval home is a dream a dream come true!
